Preparing your Windows PC for TouchPad and NumPad

Edovia recommends using TightVNC, which is a free VNC server application. Other VNC servers such as RealVNC or UltraVNC are also supported but we think TightVNC gives the best experience and is the easiest to work with.

TouchPad/NumPad is compatible with Windows XP SP3 or later.

Step 1: Configure your PC

  1. Download TightVNC at http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php.
  2. Install and launch the software.
  3. We recommend that you check «Register TightVNC Server as a system service».
  4. Find the TightVNC icon in the system tray and double-click it. The TightVNC Service Configuration should appear.
  5. You may want to turn off «Hide Desktop wallpaper» but this is not mandatory.
  6. Notice the port number. You will need this information later to add a server manually.
  7. Set a new password and write it down. You will need it to setup TouchPad/NumPad later.
  8. If Windows asks you to allow TightVNC to make changes to this computer, click Yes.
  9. Click OK to close the window.

Finding your PC's IP address

Hover your mouse cursor over the TightVNC icon in the system tray. You'll see the IP Address of your computer. Write it down. This will be needed when you add a server manually in TouchPad/NumPad.

Step 2: Setting up TouchPad/NumPad

  1. Launch TouchPad or NumPad on your iOS device if it's not already running.
  2. You will be prompted you to select a server. Tap 'Yes'. Note: you can also access the Computers List by tapping on the Settings Button.
  3. Since Windows does not broadcast its presence through the Bonjour Protocol like Macs or Linux would, TouchPad/NumPad will not be able to find your computer automatically. Tap the « Add new device » button to create a new computer manually.
  4. Fill out the form using the information gathered in Step 1.
  5. Make sure the Operating System is set to Windows.

Fill out the required Authentication information.

Tap Save and re-select the computer you've just configured.

If everything is in order, you should now be connected and ready to connect!
