Reinstalling Screens Connect for macOS

Screens Connect shares information about the computer it's installed on with your Screens ID account. This information is then retrieved by Screens to display the computer under the Screens Connect list in the Screens Library, making connecting to the computer from Screens an extremely simple matter.

If you install Screens Connect, log into the app with your Screens ID, and the computer doesn't appear in either the Screens Library or in your Screens ID account, there may have been a problem with installation. To rectify this:

Standard Procedure

1. Click the Screens Connect icon in the menu bar.
2. Click Stop Screens Connect
3. Launch Keychain Access.
4. Search for "screens connect" and "screens.connect" (without quotes).
5. Remove all results from the Keychain.
6. Restart your Mac.
7. Download a fresh copy of the latest Screens Connect release.
8. Launch Screens Connect and follow the instructions, making sure that you allow the helper tool installation when prompted.

Important: Make sure Screens Connect is installed in the /Applications folder

Manual Launch

In case the standard procedure proves ineffective, follow these advanced steps:

1. If Screens Connect is not already installed, launch the app from the /Applications folder.
2. If prompted, allow the helper tool installation.
3. Follow the initial configuration instructions.
4. Open Terminal.
5. Type this command: sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.edovia.screens.connect.plist
6. Then, type this command: sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.edovia.screens.connect.plist
7. You may need to sign out and back in with your Screens ID.

Rolling back to Screens Connect 4

If the issue persists, you can reinstall Screens Connect 4:

1. Click the Screens Connect icon in the menu bar.
2. Click Stop Screens Connect.
3. Download Screens Connect 4.12.5.
4. Launch the app to install.
