Connecting to a remote computer via a VPN with Screens Connect is neither recommended nor supported. Many VPNs handle network traffic in a way that masks or blocks user-space network communication, which prevents Screens Connect from directly contacting your router or making the necessary port accessible.
Connecting directly through your VPN
It may be possible to access your remote computers if your VPN is properly configured and a custom connection is set up in Screens 5. For detailed instructions, please refer to this article.
Tailscale
Tailscale is a versatile, free-for-personal-use solution compatible with various major platforms, usable either in conjunction with Screens Connect or independently. Detailed instructions on integrating Tailscale with Screens can be found in our How-To section.
NordVPN
If you’re using NordVPN, you can take advantage of the Meshnet feature to connect with Screens 5. Detailed setup instructions are available here.
