Authentication issues with macOS 14.5 Sonoma

If you're suddenly unable to authenticate with your Mac running macOS 14.5, please follow these steps:

  1. Click this link to open the Sharing settings on your Mac.
  2. Click the ⓘ button next to Remote Management or Screen Sharing (whichever is enabled).
  3. Ensure All Users is selected instead of Only these users.
  4. Remove any users from the list.
  5. Click Options… and reset both Observe and Control options.

This issue appears to have been introduced with macOS 14.5 and is resolved in the macOS 15 Sequoia beta. We anticipate a fix from Apple in macOS 14.6 later this summer.
