Screens 5 enhances your keyboard experience by providing improved support. The app intelligently detects the keyboard layout used on the connected computer, seamlessly adjusting its own layout to match. However, it’s essential to be aware that the VNC protocol supports solely ASCII characters, and unfortunately, Unicode characters, including certain languages like Chinese, are not supported.
Should you encounter any unexpected issues with your chosen keyboard layout, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at screens@edovia.com. We are here to assist and ensure your Screens 5 experience is smooth and tailored to your preferences.
Input Differences: Virtual vs. Hardware Keyboards
When using Screens 5 on a Mac or when using a hardware keyboard on iOS, Screens sends keystrokes, not characters. This means the keyboard layout selected on the remote Mac determines how those keystrokes are interpreted to generate characters.
When using the iOS virtual keyboard, there are no keystrokes associated with tapping a character. Instead, Screens sends the character’s Unicode value directly, bypassing the need for a keyboard layout on the remote Mac.
Understanding this distinction can help you configure your keyboards appropriately for the best experience.
