Hi

I would like to be able to connect from my Windows 7 desktop PC to my Mac mini media PC which is running OSX Lion. Both machines are in my home network. i.e sharing the same switch and subnet.

I've heard that there are all sorts of issues with VNC Servers running on Lion. I'm also fairly new to the world of Mac OSX, so I just wanted to confirm this will work.
1. Install Screens for Mac on Mac mini (so it becomes a VNC server) for $19.99.
2. Install Screens Connect on my Windows PC (as a VNC client) for FREE and then remote FROM windows TO mac.

Do I need to "wake up" my mac each time before connecting from windows pc to mac?

Also, if I also buy Screens for iPad ($15.99), I assume I will be able to connect to my Mac mini (but not my Windows PC) - is this correct?

Thanks in advance
Adrian

    Adrian,

Screens for Mac is a VNC client, not a server.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Does anyone know of a VNC server that installs on an OSX Lion mac?

I don't know of any. The only one I know of is Vine Server but it's not compatible with OS X 10.7 Lion.

AFAIK, Lion has the VNC server built-in. I must be right, because I'm using it as we speak :)
On the PC, I have your standard (free) VNC viewer installed. On Mac, go to system preferences --> Sharing and you should see a service "Screen Sharing" on the right. Turn it on, adjust the "allow access for" part, and don't forget to click on "computer settings" button to set a password.
That's it - works like a charm from the 1st try. When you connect, the screen is gray and it asks you for pass you have chosen, and that's all there is to it.
